These days people make tiny homes from pretty much anything. They use campers, vans or even cube trucks. Buses are also a thing people use to build their tiny homes. Jessie Lipskin took a 1966 Commuter Greyhound Bus and turned it into her own small mobile home. The bus was already in great condition so this helped her a lot. The inner parts of the bus were easy to restore and now it runs like a charm. Her investment was over $125,000. With this budget she completely renovated the interior hiring an architect for the designs. Jessie also brought in a professional carpenter to do the interior carpentry and the cabinets. Another thing she did was to make enough room in it to sleep 4 people. The bus also has a fully functioning bathroom onboard. The paint job on the bus is pure white which looks really cool with all the tinted windows and the nice black accents. A pull-down staircase is used to get in the main door of the house which is still the original bus door.
The inside of the bus is very bright with fresh white paint and white linens giving it that airy feeling. Jessie unfortunately can’t drive the bus because it is a stick shift but she managed to get it around. A door separates the driving are from the rest of the house. All the floors are from brand new hardwood, so are the walls which are also painted white. The roof is also white and done in tongue and groove. The bathroom comes equipped with a sink, composting toilet and a shower stall. The kitchen has some great cabinets and countertop. The kitchen also has a stove and a small fridge that installed under the kitchen counter. Jesse also owns a Panda Spin washer that works great for doing minimal washing and has a very low energy cost.
The living room and the kitchen are connected so Jessie uses one of the countertops as workplace. The living room also has some amazing built-in seats that come with storage inside. The back of the bus has two sleeping areas. One of them has a full sized mattress and a full sized closet. This is just one of the three full sized closets around the bus giving Jessie a lot of storage space for clothing etc. The living are is very comfortable and cozy and she has put on some curtains on the walls to control the summer temperatures and to allow her to darken the bus if she wants to sleep in. The back window is used as a shelf on which Jessie has put a number of her books on. This project is a great example what someone can do with an old bus and a hefty budget. It’s clear how much thought and attention to detail went into this great home.
