Living Off Grid For 30 years: A Story Of Happiness Through Isolation

Posted on April 2, 2019April 2, 2019 by Adorable Living Spaces

Over 30 years of living alone, content and off-grid.

Jill Redwood, an inspirational woman who lives on her own, off-grid with civilization an hour away..

This inspirational woman is Jill Redwood. She built her house in East Gippsland, Australia. 30 years she has lived alone completely off-grid with no city supply of electricity, water mobile reception or television.

Her weekly expenses are about 80$ a week. She owns over sixty animals to keep her company and takes care of an amazing organic garden that’s just outside her front door. All of her energy needs are supplied by solar power while for her water needs she collects water from a local creek – see video. Self-sufficiency was Jill’s goal from the start and she has done an amazing job at it.

The house and sheds are like a trip back in time, filled to the brim with 19th and 20th century odds and ends. They contain a lifetime of salvaged things that Jill might need one day.

Living on an home grown organic diet, Jill is a perfect example of health and actually looks like a much younger woman and she never gets sick to boot. It takes an hour and a half for Jill to visit the nearest store in her town, she doesn’t make these trips often saying she can go without a trip for about six months.

A larder filled with pickles, makes her own apple cider. Jill has so much knowledge of survival and living off of nature and nature itself she is like a walking encyclopedia.

The only 21st century luxury in her house is the internet which she uses for her work for Environment Eeast Gippsland, a group focused on protecting Victoria’s last ancient forest.
