Ricardo Bofill is an architect who designed a home from decomposed cement factory. When he saw the factory in 1973, he recognized great possibility and 45 years later he completely transformed it into an impressive and extraordinary home.
The factory which was located near Barcelona, was closed down because of pollution reasons. Then Ricardo Bofill and his team bought it, they deconstructed it by reviving the land with vegetation and designing the interior as a modern living space. Every single room is designed in its own unique spirit, and there are no two similar looking rooms. This home makes Bofill feel like he’s living in a closed universe which protects him from the outside world and everyday life as he announced. Throughout the estate, there are many indoor and outdoor places for leisure and relaxation. So the architecture concept of the home provides opportunity to work and rest at the same time. The external space is all covered in grass with numerous eucalyptus, palm, and olive trees.
La fábrica is a work in progress till today. Bofill likes to make certain changes and modifications as his ideas flow. But the whole concept of renovation and creating a classy, spectacular home with lush greenery from an old industrial factory is a very original and innovative project that resulted from high imagination and very creative thinking. Therefore, it’s not a mistake to say that this charming transformation that comes from Bofill’s creative visions is undeniably one of a kind.
