This mountain top cabin with a wide panoramic view in the Julian Alps in Italy is free for everyone who is willing to stay there. But the catch is you have to climb 8,300ft up Foronon del Buinz Mountain to get there.
The cut is custom-built by the family of the mountain climber Luca Vuerich, who died in 2010 by an avalanche. This extraordinary wood cabin is designed by the architect Giovanni Pesamosca and it was officially opened in September 2012. It is a safe retreat for all hikers and nature lovers. The design of the hut prevents snow for piling up and it is faced on south which helps the snow easy to melt.
Because of the height, the materials for construction were delivered by helicopter over 18 times. A team of 12 people, Luca’s friends and other volunteers assembled the structure in only one day.
Also there are other similar huts spread throughout the Alps at lower altitudes, for people who aren’t willing to hike so high, even though they are not free. Some of them, even offer staff in the summer for cooking and cleaning the cabin for climbers.
